Susky Dauphin County 8/31

Overcast with an occasional sprinkle. Great conditions....or so I thought. Still high but closing in on good levels. The water was still stained. The Juniata was definitely cleaner water. Few fish moved and fewer seen chasing bait or bugs. One nice fish did clear the water and snatched a big dragonfly which was pretty cool to see.

Water level and clarity of 2' wasn't ideal but I think the front coming through didn't help. In addition, the water is cold for this time of year. The water is typically 85 plus and it down closer to 70-71. Next week's heatwave should help. Getting closer to normal.

The 10" of sudden rain that fell in York and Lancaster yesterday surely is going to mess up the lower Susky for a week or more. I noticed before the rain the Marietta gage was down to around 28,000 cfs. Nice for my jet drive.

Hit the river again yesterday (9/8/18). Overcast skies, light / variable winds, air temp in the mid 60's. Cool water, variable clarity ranging from clear to quite stained. Just as every trip this year, slow. Mixed up streamer patterns and popper patterns. Also tossed stick bait from time to time. Not many fish landed and only one big fish was hooked. We did get to see a very nice ISO hatch around dinner time. Between clarity, flow and temps, this has been a dreadful bass season.

I hear ya Krayfish. I fished the river quite a bit between Bainbridge and Columbia over the past two weekends. I caught two catfish. That's it. Super bummed.

I drove over the river yesterday on rt 80 and it was high and muddy.

The Susky finally started to get down to near normal levels in mid July but has raised up down touching near flood levels since then and has never recovered as of yet. The worst River fishing year on record I believe.
