Do they actually stock muskies in the Brandywine? There are a number of impoundments in the drainage where they are stocked but I have no idea where it originated. Any guesses are welcomed!

Very high probability that it escaped from Marsh Creek Lake.

you must of been around or below the spillway of marsh creek. I've seen a handful of big musky back there.

They are from marsh creek lake

It's a purebred musky.

As Mike and Striperbobby pointed out, it's almost certainly a Marsh Creek Lake escapee. Muskies have a high propensity for going over dam spillways.

That is such a neat fish! im sure was crazy on a fly rod ! I was on the Brandywine that's day just checking out a spot and was really surprised at all the train tankers marked flammable in a siding next to the creek and maybe they are empty and have been there forever I don't know just thought it was odd.

Yes, a purebred in my estimation without having the fish in hand. . I only say that to confirm Dave W’s ID since ID of hybrids vs pures can be difficult. It appears that the cheek and opercle scale pattern looks correct when pic is enlarged a bit. The head shape looks correct, ie the upper vs lower jaw appearance. The color pattern is less distinct than the usual tiger. I wish, however, that I could see whether or not the lower lobe of the caudal fin comes to a pointed or rounded end. And finally, Marsh Ck Lk had likely been stocked with loads of pures vs tigers in the years of stockings from which this fish probably originated.

My other son went musky fishing in the Brandywine and caught this trout. You should have seen the size musky lure it hit!

Awesome catch, musky fishing on the Brandywine is on my to-do list for local Chester County fishing, only have fished the spillway a handful of times.

I saw exactly one live in-person musky my entire life. I was a teenager with another kid in a canoe on a lake in Shawnee State Park. It swam past ~50 yards from us with its head sticking out of the water. It kind of freaked us out to see a big fish acting that way, so neither of us noticed if it was a tiger or purebred muskie. An old-timer in the campground said they do that to look for broods of baby ducks.
