Time Fished: 10am - 1145am
Weather Conditions: Mostly Cloudy, 68 degrees
Water Conditions: 57 degrees rising to 58; Off Color, Above average flow
Insects: Couple March Brown, couple caddis, 3-4 medium size golden stone dries, 6-8 sulphur
When I rounded the turn where French Creek comes into view and it was a muddy mess, I thought fishing on Sugar was going to be good. I was very wrong. Sugar was in good fishing shape for this time of year but I only had 4 strikes and caught 1 rainbow on a march brown wet. Very disappointing day based for the favorable conditions. I usually get there earlier in the morning and maybe that was a bigger factor than I imagined. No one else was there. I had probably 1/2 mile to myself.
Insects were light. I did see a few rises. I think if the sun had stayed hidden the insects would have been heavier.
When I decided to leave Sugar the sulphurs were on my mind, so I headed to Oil Creek to check the insect activity there. I drove to the Drakes Well DHALO but the road was closed after bridge with no access to the parking area. Besides that, Oil Creek was chocolate, so no fishing would be possible. It had a lot in common with French Creek. So I headed elsewhere.
