Thank you to the many people who have posted stream reports so far this year. This forum was one of the original forums on the site, going back nearly 30 years. Please keep the reports coming—they not only provide valuable information about current stream conditions, but also create an incredible historical record of many things, including the timing of hatches.
Since 1996, more than 4,000 stream reports have been created. I have been working on a process to collect all of the old stream reports from both the previous site and the current one, with the goal of exporting them into text and PDF documents. In the near future, I’ll be putting together a blog post to share what I found and make these archived reports available again to everyone who has contributed over the years.
Some very interesting patterns and insights have appeared in these reports, especially from a historical perspective—particularly around the timing of hatches, as well as where and when they occurred.
As the name suggests, Stream Reports primarily focus on the conditions of a stream. It’s always great to share how the fishing was, but fishing success is not necessarily the primary purpose of the forum—the stream itself and its conditions are. Stream names and photos are always welcome. That said, we do try to protect fragile wild brook trout streams by keeping their names anonymous and only listing the county and date when entering a stream report.
If you read stream reports for your own use to gather information before heading out to fish, I’d encourage you to give back by adding your own report once you return from the stream.
