Went up to Stony Creek with two friends on Sat. from 9-12. We are planning on fishing there for the opener. We fished above the SGL gate. This was my first time ever there. I managed to catch one brown trout about 12" on a black woolly bugger. My one friend caught a pickerel on a rooster tail and the other also caught a brown trout. They are spin fisherman only. It was a great day to be out. Water was real clear and running pretty good.

Villeman, I'm from Lancaster too. Glad to see I'm not the only one that drives up there to fish. Did you fish Stony much last year? I usually fish it until July 4 when the Amish come up and clean it out but found it to be rather poor fishing last year. Just wondering if anyone else has seen a drop on the stream.

Actually, that was my first time. I've never fished up there ever. So, I really don't have anything to compare to. I'm sure I'll be making more trips up there. It is definately different fishing up there than down here.

Give Clarks a try also. They're similar but Clarks has a no-kill stretch that fishes well. Watch out for the snakes.

Apparently rattlers are pretty common in clarks and stoney valleys, but all the time I have spent in the two I have not come across one.(knock on wood). I will hopefully be up there on saturday riding back the railroad bed to get away from the crowds. That is my favorite stream in the harrisburg area by far, it is the only place you can go and not hear a car, dogs barking, etc. Absolute isolation from society. I need to hit some streams like the breeches, letort, and big springs this year for the first time.

To all you stony Creek lovers, make sure you write a letter to your legislator to Stop the Swap. When i was a kid, they (you know the ones) wanted to damn it up for hydo power. Now the Guard wants to fire their tanks shells into the valley. It is such a wonderfully isolated area. Let's keep it that way.

I hate to say it, but from what I read they needed that land to build a Stryker range. The building for that range is already finished. Any public appeal is just window dressing. They were going to do it with or without permission. Pretty sad if you ask me.
