Stony Creek & Clark's Creek, Dauphin Co, 3/21/09

I met up with finnanthony to hit Stony & Clarks for what turned out to be a great day on the stream. Air temp was 34 degrees at 10:30am on arrival at the SGL gate en route to Stony Creek. We walked back the trail about 1/2 an hour and saw some great looking water but no trout. From there we decided to relocate and try another spot further downstream. We came to a nice little pool and being the gentleman that he is, finnanthony let me wet a line first but I managed to catch the bush next to me instead. He threw in a montana stonefly nymph and hooked up with a nice brown on his first cast. We worked upstream for a bit but didn't land anymore fish. The water was cold and clear with zero hatch activity.

We decided to head up to the FFO section at Clarks by the shooting range to try our luck and arrived around 2:30pm. That place is LOADED with fish right now. Fish were rising but whatever they were feeding on was too small to see. I kept at the nypmphing and came into a hole filled with hungry, aggressive fish and the fun started from there. Within half an hour I had landed 6 fish (2 brookies, 4 browns) all on my size 16 prince nymph. Finnanthony tied on a prince nymph as well and joined in the fun as we caught a few more including a long skinny brown with a hooked jaw. All in all it was a great day on the stream, the best part being I didn't get skunked again!

Nice - Ya gotta love Clarks and Stony. It's starting to look like springtime.

Nice fish, i thought that last brown was a snakehead or such at first compared to the others

The brown with the hook jaw was definitely a skinny fish in need of a few good meals. I was surprised at how active the fish were in the cold water.
