Went to Stoney this morning in beetween jobsites and fished for a short amount of time. Spent 25 minutes or so at some decent looking water. Just a brown bugger, no hits. Heard a "gloop" from downstream in a pool. But couldn't locate it. One inch of snow covered the ground and it was COLD. Line almost started to freeze. Careful, on the dirt road, it is packed snow/ice,(snice)?
Wish I had more time. I caught a few nice browns and brookies last spring and summer. Maybe I should've tied on my Beadhead Hare's Ear. I'm ready for another full day outing this winter, that was a tease.

The "gloop" noise that you heard was probably a heron flying by and dropping a turd in the water. They are big birds and have big droppings.

Dude, take some pix. It keeps us hangin' on to hope in this cold spell.

They did come out nice......ill have to post some of mine another time. Lmfao that pic of me wading out to my snag by the keebler elf tree doesnt show how i almost went in right there ;-)
 
ROFLMAO. That's so funny. Your probably right about the heron. I remember hearing the "gloop" sound in a relatively slow section of stream and looked back and forth and even turned around, like "did anyone else hear that, cause where the hell did that come from", as if anybody else was within a mile and a half of me fishing in 20 degree weather.
 
By the way, I've been having trouble getting pics onto this site, (why I don't post any). I also have no avatar, same reason. All my pics are about 8.2 megapixels, or about 3 to 4 MB. I thought maybe I might try to reduce pixels in the camera settings. For some reason this is the only site I have trouble with, uploading pics. I have some decent photos that I wouldn't mind posting. I lug my Canon 30D with me on half of my fishing trips, (cumbersome...yes) at least my planned ones that don't involve a misadventure from my workday schedule. I plan to buy a Pentax or Olympus waterproof model this year, exclusively for fishing.
 
one of my first ever fly fishing adventures was at a local park. I was standing there having no clue what I was doing fishing a black gnat dry. I heard a flock of geese flying above and heard the sparatic wing flaps of one of the birds. I immediately knew what it was and covered my head. The large excrement atomic bomb literally came down and hit about 6" from my fly in the water. I'm just glad it didn't hit me!

Max file size for upload is 1 MB, so that probably explains why you've been having problems.

You can go out to an online photo editor such as this to resize your images. Keeping them around 450 x 600 keeps the thread nice without excessively large images that throw the alignment out.
 
Well, next time I go out I'll set my in camera settings to Small, only 441 KB. My camera has 13 different recording formats from about half a MB up to about 12 MB set on Large+Raw format. I have managed to put only one photo on this site previously and that was a close up of a brown trout cropped from a wide angle photo of me, Muddy Creek in the background and to either side of me, holding my fly rod and a trout. Even after degrading my pics and photoshopping them they still need cropped to get on here (at least up till now), that I realize the site has limitations on file size to just about camera phone quality images. Although even at my cameras lowest format setting, (S), my picture size is still 1728x1152. So I guess well see. I'll have to try to get an avatar off my cell phone pics. I have a great pic of a cheeseburger I ordered at a nice pub. I just had to take a pic it was a nice looking good tasting cheeseburger, but no fishing pics on my cell phone.

I think you are misunderstanding the nature of digital images somewhat. There is no need to degrade the image pixelization by taking the photo on a cameraphone or reducing the resolution camera settings. Take your photos as normal, then reduce the overall image to less than 600 pixels in width with an image editing program or service like the prior poster suggested. This will reduce the total size of the file and likely bring it within the uploading parameters in place here.

As an example, I found a very large web image of a USA map. It was 4800x3140 pixels in dimension. The file size was 2.87 Megabytes. I then used a simple resize program to keep the aspect ratio and set width to 640 pixels, resulting in dimensions of 640x419. The resultant file was 102 Kilobytes, well within upload parameters.

Those pics were taken with my Sony Ericson walkman phone. It has a 2 mega pixel camera and 4g memory card that holds 1000 songs. Phone/camera/mp3 player all in one. It's all I cary anymore. Even takes video with the same quality as the pics.

If you have photoshop you should be able to resize the picture (shift+s I think...might have to look in the menu labeled "image"). If you look for "aspect ratio" you can leave that set to 1 and the image will automatically reduce its size while retaining resolution (to a point).
 
its just image/resize...I hate keyboard shortcuts...save as jpeg and select 5 for quality...I have never had a problem emailing or uploading.

Hey that's great, it worked and now I can put better pics on here.
What a pain in the *** that was. It should be a breeze though now that I 've worked out all the kinks in my computer.

When I went in October the water was really low and pools were slow and smooth fish were skittish. Your photos show it as it's opposite. There's so much water that there are aren't really any pools, just fast water and runs where the pools were. I wish it wouldn't get so low like it did earlier this year. Fortunately there are quite a few deep holes in Stoney.
 
Ya i was shocked to see how low it was in your pics. It was running good in October...which you would expect. I can tell you this much....riding bike back that far was hard...well at least one way. The road is on a slight incline. Well worth the scenery though.
 
sal and spectorfly, have you guys ever been far enough in stoney valley to see the rausch gap coal town ruins? If you're interested in history its a neat place to visit while back there.
