Steelhead stream reports Erie, 11/1/23

Conditions have made a major change in the last few days. Recent rains have pushed fish beyond Steretania o Elk. However above rt. 98 numbers are no considerable less compared to the lower sections. Also last night we receved 4 inches of snow. This dropped water temps. and many fish were a little slugish. The next few days should provide excellent fishing.

Great report! Was there today and experienced the same exact thing. Stopped at spots from 79 down to lake city. Picked up two, but the water started cooling noticeably by 1-2pm. Conditions will improve the next few days.

A buddy sent me a pic before all of this precip of guys fishing the lake near the mouth of one of the tribs.

Made Uncle Johns today look like a remote Canadian lake! I have no idea how anyone could cast, or why on earth you'd want to crowd in like that. Simply bizarre to me.

I've been watching Uncle John's cameras and the fishing was hot Thursday. I saw 5 fish hooked and 3 landed in about 20 minutes .All the action was t the hole where the old bridge abutment is. It was definitely combat fishing .

11-5-23 Report

Water levels have come down making swing flys easy and effective. This weekknds pressure what is expected this time of year. Fish have made it all the way up to Rt 79. However most fish in the upper sections are older dark fish and not very agressive. Fishing from rt. 20 down sees fresh somewhat agressive fish currently. Things are looking good for more water to fish meaning less pressure in many areas.

Yes in Ohio. I went on a 4 day exploration of a creek that I have for some reason I have never fished. That being said reliable steel starts NLT mid October in PA for me. There are fish there but not in the numbers seen in PA.

I was going to say, wow no way those fish are up the creek yet on the pa side already. I spent some time on it in pa, it’s a fun creek. I usually don’t fish it till winter and spring since it takes time for them to get up there.

I fished the erie tribs for the first time in forever on a weekend yesterday and i’ve never seen so many guys in my life fishing. Tons of fish but they are all podded up but i think it will make an interesting winter season atleast

Came here to say that there’s a mess of fish and even more anglers out there staring at them. Fished upper elk and landed a few early and then masses of mupheres appeared so we hit the road.

Lol. It wasn’t just them, lots of Russians too. Point being is that I’ve never seen that many anglers on Upper Elk. They all walk by the water where the fish will take a fly and go straight to where the pods are in big aquarium holes.

when you say upper you mean above 90? i like going ever further up and walking the creek i can’t say i’ve seen THAT many guys all the way up. I stopped at one spot above 79 and one car came just as we were getting ready to go down to the water

Same thing happens down here on the yellow breeches when the general public finds out pfbc is dumping in tens of thousands of hatchery raised rainbow trout. It attracts alot of people you’d probably never see without dumping in the hatchery rainbows. Same deal up there

those russian guys hit a lick on the mile creeks one day last year when i was up there. I am pretty sure they were using the salmon river set up bottom bouncing in 5 feet of water hahahah. I didn’t see any fish on a stringer though
