Spring Creek, Centre County, March 19

Fished from around 11 to 4 below Paradise. Water had a nice green color and was flowin pretty strong. Olives started in earnest around 1 p.m. and lasted till 3:30 or so. Fish response was nil in the sunny areas, but there were fish rising pretty steady along the shaded banks. I think a lot of people miss them, all you see is a beak breaking the surface, there's no indication on the surface with such current and wind.

They weren't easy, though. Demanded a perfect drift, which was tough with wind and current. Ended up with 6, all on dries. Best fish around 13".

I was the guy who told you the fish were not rising up above the handicapped section. I did find two risers around 3:00 p.m. and you were right they were tough. It took me over an hour to catch both of those fish. They took a sz 20 cripple.

Cool. I was walkin around a lot, my wife was bouncing around with a camera lookin for frogs and birds and such, and I couldn't keep track of her, lol.

Yeah, 3 holes in a row below there, I probably had 30ish risers in all. Each fish would make 5-10 quick rises and then settle for a few minutes, then come back at it, this went on all afternoon.

What made em tough is they were right up against the far bank on the current break, so you had to cast across that current into the slack water. Lots of mending practice, tryin to get the perfect angle, etc. But when I did my part, they took an 18 cut wing thorax style BWO. 6 landed, and missed many more (often downstream presentations were needed, which results in more misses).

Yeah down below the sun doesn't hit the water like up above. It seems like whenever I fish the olives on spring creek its's too sunny for a prolonged hatch. I fished for three days and their wasn't a cloud in the sky friday, saturday or sunday, it was sort of frustrating for the olive fishing. I guess i needed to find more shaded water. I was having fun nymphing and dry/dropper fishing too.
