Nice sunny day in Centre County despite Accuweather saying overcast all day. Started at the Little J from noon till 2 but didn't stay. Lots of caddis in all stages and a few sulfurs, but few fish rising, except against the far bank in impossible lies. At least for me... Water temp was 55, Air almost 70. Direct sun may have played a role, it might have been better later.

So went to Spring, took a look below Bellefonte but river was raging. Logan Run plus the big spring are overdoing it. Above Route 550 and below the paradise was much nicer, same water temp as Little J. Saw 10-12 guys in the 250 yards of stream I fished, about average for Spring Creek on a weekday 🙂 Still sunny but by 4 PM sun mostly was off the water. Plenty of caddis active, not as many as the Little j. But more sulfurs launching, not heavy at all but every few minutes would see one flying off. In every decent run a couple trout were working, sporadically, but almost none refused my #16 sulfur. I brought 4 to hand(3 browns and a brookie!) and missed twice that many. Browns were 9-10 inches, and fat, brookie was 7 inches, must be a native but didn't seem exceptionally vibrant in color, not like the browns. Fish were working in fast or ripply water, saw only a couple rises in flat pools. Stayed till 8 but didn't see any spinners. Spoke to a guy at the car, he said today was the first day for sulfurs but I think they've been around a few days, mentioned on a fly shop stream report. It was nice to fish on top, with a sulfur, and not feel like I was just practicing casting!

Great report, love the details. It's very encouraging to hear that sulphurs are starting, I can't wait to get out that way. Sounds like you had a great day!
