Time Fished: 8am - 130pm
Weather: Mostly Sunny
Water: Green to start clear by the afternoon, good flow
Temp: Mid 50s
Section(s): Canyon and Paradise
First time out in over a year and a half (was "training" my first a bird dog). The hatches were minimal while I was there, nothing hatching at all in paradise while I fished that section. In the canyon in the shaded area there were some sulphur coming off for the first hour, spinners anywhere there was fast water until almost 11 were falling, albeit only a few at a time. There were some tan caddis and crane flies coming off but not in any large numbers. Did not see any BWO, but that does not mean there were not any.
All that being said the fishing, even on top was fairly good. Fished the majority of the time with a 16 tan caddis mostly with a dropper. The caddis had quite a few rises, with an ok hook rate on my part, a little rusty. Some of the droppers that had fish: 16 BH Pheasant tail, 16 caddis emerger, 16 rusty spinner, 18 caddis emerger. Was prepared to do a lot of midging, however did not see any midging trout. All in all really good day to be out.
