Spring Creek, Centre County 5-24-14

Fished below the paradise waters from 8-3 with my dad and brother. Water was off color in the morning and running just under 200 cfs. No top action was noted throughout the day but some sulphurs rose occasionally. The water seemed to clear up a bit by the afternoon and a few small rain showers passed over. Caught fish throughout the day using various small tan or olive nymphs (sz 14-18). Great day to be on the water.

Really nice fish! It's been a while since I've caught anything that size out of Spring, I rarely fish below Paradise though.

I fished Spring Creek Park last night (5/25) from 7-9 pm and caught 10. First one was the biggest at 12" and took a skated elk hair caddis (fly was still tied on from trip the day before so I gave it a shot). next 8 were caught with a #16 sulphur emerger with a #14 sulphur nymph dropper, most took the emerger. Last one was caught on a #14 rusty spinner. Flow was around 110 cfs.

Last week I caught my first double ever using the same emerger/nymph setup. Loving the sulphur hatch right now :-D

I think the higher, discolored water helped a bit. I generally don't do as well in clear conditions. The more basic nymph patterns seemed to produce well for us.

I fished Spring during the day on Friday and did well with nymphs, then fished it in the evening and had some sulphur action. Saturday evening was pretty good on most of Spring from what I heard, but the section I fished got affected by rain which put the bugs down right away. Last night was good. Missed way more than I caught though...

The sulphur hatch on Sunday was the most intense I've ever seen. I was upstream of Paradise in the canyon section and there were non stop bugs coming off from around 7 - 9 pm.
