I fished Fishermans Paradise from around 1PM to 5PM. It was lightly raining most of the time. I checked the radar on my phone, and there was a narrow band of rain that ran right over the State College area. Started out nymphing with muskrat and small brown jig nymphs. I lost the first three fish that I hooked. Early on the nymphing was slow. Twice I thought that I had found the right nymph when I hooked a fish on the first cast with the fly. But then I wouldn't catch anything else on that fly.
After a little while I noticed some sulfurs hatching. In some of the slower pools there where some fish rising. I decided to switch to
dries, but I didn't catch anything. The rises that I saw were splashy, so I think the fish were taking nymphs rising to the surface.
After wasting a lot of time trying to catch fish on the surface, I decided to switch back to the nymphing game. I put on a small bead head pheasant tail nymph and ended up hooking six fish in one small area. I ended up hooking ten fish but only landed six of them.
I think that the word has gotten out that the sulfurs are hatching. For a Wednesday afternoon, there were plenty of people out fishing. When I left, I drove down paradise road, and there were people fishing below fishermans paradise as well.
