The second day of my trip I had planned to get to Spring Creek. I had heard conditions were very good with even a solid sulphur hatch occurring in the afternoon the previous day. But this came with some pretty good crowds.
I arrived in the late morning with some sun and a few clouds. The air temp was about 52 degrees and climbed to 65 in the late afternoon. Clouds took shortly after I arrived. I was expecting a pretty big storm later in the evening. There had not been a serious rain in many days so the water conditions were ideal running at about 150 CFS. It had the usual off-color tint and temps.
I saw a few caddis and sulpurs as soon as I got to the water. A few risers around the stream got me excited. I threw on #16 sulphur to see what I could do. I'm always amazed at the size of the trout along the banks in Spring Creek. I found a few what looked to me dink size trout and turned out to be some decent browns.
This didn't last too long as the sun came back out and shut down the surface activity. The afternoon hatch that occurred the previous day didn't occur. Spent some more time nymphing, but left in the late afternoon.
I did a little driving around upstream and checked out some fo the regular parking lots along the stream. I heard there were a few other people I knew fishing, but they were elusive as the afternoon trout. Paul thanks for the suggestion. It turned it to be a perfect location to park and fish!
