Spring Creek, Centre County, 3/23 - 3/25 2010

I spent 3 days on spring creek this week. The water was clear, with a nice green tinge. And was at a great level for fishing and wading.
Tuesday - when it rained on and off all day - was by far the best. The BWO's just covered the water from 2- 5pm. And fish were rising everywhere.
Wed and thurs were sunny, and a lot less flies hatched. But there were still enough BWO's coming off sporadically to bring the fish up in shaded areas.
I also saw quite a few stoneflies hatching, but as usual, the fish pretty much ignored them. On the surface, anyway.
I was able to find some fish taking midges in the mornings. But once the larger flies started in the afternoon, they were ignored.

All in all, a very nice trip. And my #18 BWO's got a good workout.

I wonder how much she'll rise after tomorrows rain..They are calling for up to a half of inch, right now shes flowing at 142cfs..I would like to get up there but not if conditions are blown out and bad for dries..

Nice pics. The one on the bottom looks like a great fish. I will get a chance to fish Spring in just three weeks.

Spring creek rose about 6 inches overnight. And went from 150 to 300 cfs. At the Axeman gage. I'd say it's gonna be murky for the next couple of days

Sounds like you picked a good week, for some dryfly action, wish I could have been there...Nice report!

Looks like nice weather for the end of next week!

Is it time for a road trip? Would be a good time to checkout the camper, and see how that made it through the winter!
