Spring Creek, Centre County - 3/11/13

Always jump at the chance to drop off my daughter back to school and after her Spring break I took the morning to spend some time on Spring Creek.

Morning was still a little cold at a bout 45 degrees and overcast. Water was clear and 47 degrees. Weather was sunny and nice the two days before I arrived.

Worked the stream with some nymphs and Walt's Worms. Always a safe bet in Spring Creek. No risers, but did see several very small mayflies from time to time. Seemed to be BWO's.

Was this photo taken below Fisherman's Paradise? Do you get to the other side of the creek by crossing the bridge at Axeman?

My son went to Penn State. So many pristine trout streams up there.

First the Breeches, and now Spring ...... you seem to get around, dude!

I fished Spring on the 7th and the 8th. Slow in the mornings, but both afternoons fish were rising. I had some great dryfly fishing with size 20 BWO CDC emergers. I even caught a few fish on the elk hair caddis I was using as an indicator.

Busy day Monday heading south. Figured I would hit a couple of favs on the way home.

This is below the Paradise over the bridge and up a few hundred yards.

I was talking with a real nice gentleman before stepping into the stream. We both agreed it was no secret there plenty of fish in this waterway, plenty of good places to fish for miles, just happens to be not always the easiest to figure out. Like a lot of streams there is a lot of learning to do.

That van is always parked there. Anybody know the story to that van? Other than that's its permanent parking spot.

I was up there monday also. Too bad you didn't hang around longer.
There was a nice BWO hatch - and plenty of risers - that afternoon

Sorry I missed you, but your luck for sure. I bet as soon as I left of course the BWO's came off in ernest. 🙂

I haven't fished that hatch there in a while, but when I lived up that way, it was common with BWO's. They come in multiple "waves". First small wave in morning, and it dies off. Everyone thinks it's over and leaves. Their loss, it was merely warming up, the show hadn't even started!
