Spring Creek, Centre County, 2/21/09

Fished on Spring Creek last Saturday for about 2 hours. The trout eagerly ate a #22 Olive Midge Pupae. Finished with a brown and 3 rainbows. In the past year, I've caught many more rainbows on Spring than I had in the past.

Spilled over from the hatchery the rainbows are....Holy Crap that sounded like Master Yoda!!!

I have noticed a ton more bows too. Even some larger ones.

I think some of the hatchery works drop a couple off -- I think they do this at Tylersville too.

I really hate seeing goldens in Spring though.

I just thought that if you are catching bows below the park in Bellefonte they could be wild. The fertilized eggs could drift out of that section with the monsters.

I don't fish Spring Creek as much as I did in the 80s but I always got a lot of rainbows out of the Paradise - probably due to the hatchery. Most of those 'bows were very nice fish and didn't look like your typical hatchery escapees. Perhaps they had held over for a couple years. I didn't seem to get as many up around Benner Springs and the sections I fished upstream around Lemont seemed to be populated completely by browns.

I usually see them downstream at benner, or downstream of the paradise, so the hatchery theories hold true IMO.

Yeah, I know two spots where I get some wild ones. Not routinely, but occasionally. Away from hatcheries and some sub 7", they look different than the stockies.

I caught a fair number of stocked rainbows below Benner, and right at Paradise. I rarely fished those locations though.
