I promised reports to a few here, so figured I'd take care of it here.
I went with a few friends, including JustFish, with intentions to stay at the feathered hook and fish penns. We stopped at FFP and they told us Penns might be fishable near Coburn, but we wanted to fish Weikert. It didn't matter because it was all in the bushes. Jonas didn't answer his phone, and nobody was in the shop, so we headed back to Bellefonte to look at Spring. As usual, it looked perfect when everything else was blown.
We got a few each at the access point just upstream of 550 on scuds, muskrat nymphs, and pheasant tails.
Another friend showed up that night, and I called and bothered Acristic and JackM about how to get to the narrows, and how it might look after all the rain and snowmelt. We headed over there and found it looking good, but the water was in the low 40s. After I got one small brown, we decided to stay on Spring for the rest of the trip.
My friend got something like 14 on a centerpin with a trout bead. Sometime I'll post his address so you can go throw rotten fruit at his house for his unethical tactics. The rest of us managed a few nice fish here and there, fishing from just below the paradise, all the way down to 550 bridge. Small scuds, buggers, pheasant tails were the ticket... Oh, and for my one friend, peach trout beads.
Fished Benner this morning and nailed them on a size 12 walts worm/scud tandem. I then tried the pin and lost one the first cast. Second cast produced about a 14 inch brown.
The warm air moved in very abruptly today, freaking us out a little bit at first. I was standing next to a pool, and all of the sudden it felt like I was standing next to a warm air vent at a laundromat. My buddy commented that he felt the same. A few minutes later, it felt like 60 degrees and I was sweating under my two sweaters, jacket, wading jacket combo. Weird.
