Spring Creek Centre County 03/22/2015

Fished the Fisherman's Paradise lower end Sunday 03/22/2015. Started out with a BWO nymph/ green weenie tandem with no luck, but then saw a fish rise four times, then another, and another. After some closer examination, saw a whole mess of bugs along with many fish faintly rising in a backwash area of one of my favorite stretches. Switched over to a BWO dry, ended up catching five on the surface, and missing several others, biggest was around 16-17 inches.

Lately,the dry fly fishing is kicking in around 10AM so nymphing is productive at daylight till...
With today's cold morning (39F), the dry fly gods delayed the bugs from drying their wings and taking flight. baetis were on the water from 10 till about 1PM. Never waited for a spinner fall and left for home around 5:30PM.
I've been running into people showing up later in the day looking for an afternoon hatch. Some days it happens late. Some days early.
This report is for our days below the paradise and timing and such might be different upstream.

ditto that Dano, had some good enough olive action from when I arrived at 11ish until 1:30ish today, 4/3. Really slowed down quick and I packed it in around 2:30. Was on the Houserville stretch..

I'm curious to what this comment means? Were the fish played too long or is the question why were the fish put on the reel (in the first place) to play?

Unless I have a lot of line out, I almost always put the fish on the reel. This is why I bought one with a drag mechanism.

I'm with Jack, I try to make a habit of putting trout on the reel. Doesn't matter so much on the little ones, but when you hook a monster you'll be glad you did.

Agree with Jack. If I don't have much line out, I'll even put the smaller ones on. Mainly to get used to doing it so I'm not a mess when I get a big one on.

I always put the trout on the reel - no exceptions. Better line management and it is good practice for when you hook big fish.
