I am of the opinion that allowing more auto traffic directly into the heart of the canyon would negatively impact the area. I am concerned if allowing cars into the relatively remote section of the canyon would lead to illegal dumping, littering and the congregation of kids "up to no good".
I wonder if PFBC has made decisions about motorized vehicle (ATV, 4-wheelers) access in the area.
Anytime one fishes there is fish mortality. Allowing greater pressure throughout the stream (as direct access might) could thin the density of fisherman near benner, but it would also eliminate a pristine, wild trout refuge where trout can go about their business unmolested. While trout may not migrate far under ideal circumstances, trout could move from the refuge into other areas on each side as the population in these heavily pressured areas thins. It is really unknown how important that 0.6 miles of untouched stream (actually you can add another 1/2 mile where fishing pressure is light b/c people don't want to walk that far) is to maintaining the trout population in the stream. We just don't know. I don't know of anyone who is disappointed with the state of the Spring Creek fishery right now. I can't foresee how opening up that area would improve the fishery. It may make it easier on people, but at what cost? We just don't know.
