Spring Creek, Centre Co., 6/25/16

Tough morning throwing every terrestrial known to Flyfishing mankind and some caddis imitations and wet ant or midge droppers. Eventually, pulled out a Green Weenie and the trout were fighting over it. Didn't see any inch worms and no rises most of the day but there must have been a recent worm hatch. Released a dozen fish in a couple of hours. Later afternoon they went off the weenie. It may have gotten too warm. Another guy I talked to in the morning said he had 68 degrees on his thermometer.

Got a 65 degree reading at 8am on lower Spruce Creek yesterday, the J likely much warmer.

Please watch the water temp. If it was 68 in the morning I'm quite certain the water was over 70 in the afternoon. Unless it really wasn't 68 in the morning. That seems really high for Spring Creek in the morning, but who knows with the lack of rain we have been experiencing.

On Sunday, Spring Creek at Fishermans Paradise was 71F at around 6:30 to 7 pm or so.

Sounds like it's time to give the trout a break. Stress levels become very high at those temps. The smallies and carp are willing to play!

Yes, but smallies will start to suffer over 75 so be mindful of them too. Use a 7-8 wt and heavy enough tippet to haul them in and not overplay. Release revived.

Fished the Little J on Sunday, the fish definitely need a break, caught a couple on size 18 Frenchie very early in the morning, very, very slow as the day progressed.

Biked along the Yough on Saturday, it was muddy from the rain on Friday morning – ugh.

I fished Spring on 6/22. When I arrived early evening, the water temp was 71, so I took a nap for awhile, since I was there for the nightcap anyway. Talked to a young teacher for a bit and was discouraged to find out he knew nothing about the mud snails (the rocks were black with them). Temperature did drop nicely after dark, but although I hooked a few fish, I did not land any. Always encouraging to lay a headlight on a solid 20 inches though.
