Treated myself to a couple of days on Spring Creek. Friday was a bust - Conditions were horrid, sunny and 30mph winds - nuff said there.
Sat 3/14 made up for it. Started on the cabin section around noon. Air temps were in the 40's and skies were overcast. Stream was gin clear and a flows were on the low side at 90 cfs. Water temps in the 40s. Olives started coming off around 1pm and lasted until 4. Not crazy numbers of bugs but just enough to get the fish to start looking up. Caught quite a few on 18 comparadun and CETs with a trailing emerger tied behind the point fly.
Interestingly, I was talking to Josh Miller the other day and he told me to make sure I have a couple of #18 black caddis just in case. Sure enough I saw a few #18 black caddis. Another fisherman confirmed my observation as well. Make sure you throw a few in your olive box.
Crapped the bed on a nice fish that was chasing down the emerger by setting the hook way to soon. I watched it move 4ft for the fly and well I should have waited a tad longer. Happens.
Almost no fishermen on the stream due to our current circumstances.
