Spring Creek, Centre Co., 1/11/19

WEATHER: Very warm with air temps in the mid 60s; cloudy and windy. No snow cover.

WATER: Normal levels and clear; 45 degrees F (confirmed by thermometer).

HATCHES: None - did not see a single rise.

Nice day but tougher fishing than I'd expected. Fishing pressure was also lower than I'd expected considering it was a weekend with nice weather, although the number of anglers grew as the afternoon progressed, especially in the Paradise.
Between myself and a buddy we managed a few fish, all by stick nymphing, including some fish from riffles.

Thanks for the report, Dave. I bagged a trip out on 1/9 due to the deep freeze. Air temp was 12 degrees in the morning that day....

I was there the same weekend. Same thoughts.... myself and buddies all got a handful of fish but had to really work for them.

I was there on the 13th and had an unusually good day. I always catch some fish when I go to spring but I really got into them that day. Only saw two other anglers but that’s to be expected for a Monday.

I saw a few rises during the day but that was it. I nymphed all day and took fish steady on the usual patterns.

Weather was overcast and air/water temp was in the 40’s. No wind whatsoever made for a nice day on the water.

I think this time of year you have to be picky about the water your fishing. I did a lot of walking and only stopped to fish the best looking water.
