Getting another new knee next Tuesday and decided I needed fishing fix before I go down for a month or so. Wife and I headed up to Spring below the Paradise stretch and I started fishing around 0730. (One of the best presents I ever got my wife was the Barns and Noble NOOK, I fish and she is more than happy to sit streamside and read.) Water was around 64 and clear with a morning fog lifting. Although it was a good morning I couldn’t buy a bite, tried; scuds, PT’s, zebra midges, Walt’s worms, cadis, ants and beetles, waiting for the Trico’s but nothing. Had to fix the skunk so we went up to Shingletown and fished (I think it is Roaring Run) for Brookies and although it was pretty skinny water managed a few on caddis.
Stayed at ‘The Queen’ B&B and would recommend that, had dinner at the Gamble Mill Pub and although the beer was good the food just wasn’t worth the money.
Met some good friends at Benner Springs the next morning at 0630, they are locals and knew the stream. Before long we were into the Trico’s and had fish coming up all around me for a good hour and a half. I only brought 3 browns to the net but missed a bunch and had a great morning fish fix. Doubt it will last, but with the hot weather and some significant down time coming it sure did give me something to remember.
