Made a trip to State College this weekend.
Saturday: Fished Spring from around 11 till 4:30. Lots of guys. Outhiked them, but the area we ended up with usually has very few rising fish. I managed to nymph up 4, and my friend 1. Very few BWO's sited, most fish came on olive nymphs or midge larvae.
Sunday am: Hit a local brookie stream. Tough fishing, water real low and still very cold. I managed 2 fish, my friend 1, and a few misses and lost fish. Dissapointing first outing of the year on the mountain streams.
Sunday pm: Back to spring from about 12 till 4. Rain and getting colder. Less guys out, so we fished an area where I know fish rise more often. Lots of midging trout. BWO's kept making pushes to get a hatch going, it'd start to pick up and you could see a number at a time, a fish here and there would rise to one, and then a rainstorm would hit. Rain would end and the BWO's would start trickling off again, and then more rain. Never did get going good, but it wanted to. Final score: me: 5, my friend: 2. Most taken on midges on top, 2 were underneath, but on the same cast! Those are the only I got on nymphs all day, what are the chances?
Fishin was rough this weekend, but I can say the average size was pretty good. Here are some pictures of the weekend. The 2 fish pic was from the 2 fish cast....
