Spring Creek 6-14-09 Centre County

Fished below McCoy Dam site on Sunday.For some reason the fish were bunched up and I caught very few until I was further downstream from the dam removal. I was using my float rod, but I was using nymphs. That walt's worm is a killer. The fish aggressively hit the fly and I missed quite a few but also caught a bunch. I noticed two dead trout on the stream bottom, but I am not sure if thats just normal mortality or if something else was the cause. There was a big boy hanging out in the pool I was fishing, but he wasn't interested in my offerings. The temps and the weather was fantastic and with the exception of a couple of canoes, I didn't see anyone else the whole day.

What size walt's worm were you using?

Spring Creek is my favorite too. I dream about being there all the time. I never really fish anywhere, but down around the paradise. Where can you gain access to the former McCoy Dam site?

I was using a small 18 bead head made from muskrat and red thread. There is a new access parking lot at the dam removal site.

Yeah Spring Creek is hard to beat a ton of trout in there I prefer Penns I like big streams and is like being in the movie a river runs through it makes me think of that everytime when im down in Penns.

I never really caught a ton of fish out of Penn's Creek. Its a little tricky to wade for me and I am somewhat intimidated by the big water. I guess this time of year would be ok now that flows are down. I fished it before memorial day and it was pretty off color. The only drawback at Spring Creek is the slight sewage odor which detracts from the overall fishing experience.

Penns is no doubt tricky to wade very slippery and big rocks in the water. Very fast water in the early spring makes it even harder now it is coming down some was tricky even to wade this morning. yeah I have also smelled that at Spring.
