After the rain we had last week I was uncertain if the water levels would be favorable this past weekend. With hearing that the Sulphur hatch was in full swing on Spring Creek we made a last minute decision Saturday morning to go for it. Even though the bigger creeks like Penns and the Little J were still too high to offer good fishing, it is prime hatch time. Spring Creek was up a little but still in decent fishing shape at just under 200 CFS at the Axemann gauge. There were lots of fishermen but there were also plenty of rising fish on Saturday evening. They were tough. I threw all manner of Sulphur and Caddis patterns at them. Lots of splashy refusals. Eventually I fooled a few on a size 16 Sulphur then a Rusty Spinner pattern.
