Fished some of the heavier riffles on Spring Creek in the am on Sunday. Wrangled about 8 or so on nymphs (Sulphur Nymph and Green Caddis). Most were smaller but two went about 14 or so. Some sporadic rises but not too many bugs in the air. Super clear and sunny so I spent more time in shady spots even that early in the day. Took my time getting to Penns with a stop off on Elk Creek just beside Coburn. Caught a couple browns and to my surprise some feisty stocked rainbows.

Got to Penns near Weickert about 6:30. Still bright sun. Quick hooked and released (unintentionally I might add) three browns on Crane fly nymphs. Waited waited waited and then, just when I could barely see a thing at all, a Sulphur emerger hatch. Quick missed two and got on the road about 9:00 for a long ride home. Penns was kind of busy but in late May I'm not surprised. No drakes that I saw.
