Southern Lancaster County stream - 07.Mar.10

I made it out today to fish a location I hadn't fished before. In reading this forum, I heard wonderful things about this stream and although it didn't hold large populations of wild trout, was worth the price of admission just to enjoy the scenery. I'm sure some of you will know the location of this stream, but for the sake of preservation, I'll leave it unnamed other than to say it dumps into the Susquehanna.

I fished the "lower half" of this stream and didn't find many holes until I got down to the bottom of the stream. I would have to speculate that the stream is flowing the best it will all year due to the snow melt. The flow was strong and the plunge pools I came across were flowing strong. Getting my fly down deep enough was a challenge. I had a few strikes, but in the end, took a 'skunk'. Didn't matter though.

By the time I made it to the bottom of this stream where most of the fish are, it was time to turn around and make the hike back to the car. I would say that hiking was a bit treacherous with felt soled wading boots on and the snow on portions of the trail. Even in the summer, I'd be willing to bet hiking alongside this stream could be a challenge for some and it's not for the faint of heart. The hike is well worth the view though...

I did see some small stoneflies clinging to rocks as well as small airborne insects (midges?). I didn't take a temp, but the water was ccccold!

I can't wait to get down to the streams in that area. That view alone definitely looks like it was worth the trip. Nice pics.

I doubt that you have not received help from about where to fish as well as many other things from the people on this site. Why do you feel that sharing the name of this stream is so terribly wrong. People have trusted you haven't they...?

PM me and I'll tell you ;-) . The same as people helped me when I learned where to fish - I PM'ed them and asked them about the places to fish... I just didn't feel the need to share the specifics of this stream with the world, other than a generalized location. A small amount of research would indicate where it is.

For what its worth, I agree with the forum policy that states the stream must be named. It's not a report without a stream name, just a nice fish story. I'd imagine it'll get moved.
