South West Coast of Florida Dec. 18th

Hit the north end of Siesta Key -Sarasota Florida.

Fished the low tide for a hour before tide started to come in and with it brought a school of blues but no takers. As well as a good size school of baitfish.

Typically you can find blue fish, mackeral,snook,mangrove snapper,ladyfish and sheephead.

Today it was all mangrove snapper. Caught 3 and missed two bigger mystery fish.

Anyway, great day! Wet waded with 70 degree water and air temps at 74. Slight chop today with 10-15 mph winds out of the north.

I know this sounds ridiculas but it was actually cold here today(for here that is). Cold front came through on the weekend and brought the temps into the 40 and 50s at night.

The fishing should get better as it is supposed to warm into the upper 70's later in the week.

Have you gotten out to north bridge to the island? I forget the name of the bridge, but it's the one that's not Stickney Point Road. The little park under the island side is a pretty cool spot. If ya feel like chuckin' bait they even have rod holders built into the benches. A buddy and I absolutely hammered spanish macks by the pass a few years back. Dang near every cast. If you can get access to "the point of rocks" by all means do so. You can't go past the high water mark, but everybody there is renting, so they aren't really that concerned. We walked out on the rocks to about the breakers and caught snappers, sheepshead, tons of ladyfish and I believe a couple trout. I haven't been down that far for a year or two, but this post has me absolutely jonesin' to get there. It's one of my favorite places in Florida. The lady at the fly shop is awesome! She knows more about saltwater fishing than anyone I've ever met. Oh, and don't forget to swing by SKOB for a grouper sandwich and a beer! Man I'm jealous!

THAT IS CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT!!!

Thanks to the ice storm, for the past three days I've had to take refuge at my mother in-law’s house. Picture this... 4 women, 5 kids under the age of 5, and ME!

I finally get back into my house (through a fallen tree) and check my beloved PA Flyfish.com board and find this post. You really know how to make a grown man cry.

I'm glad you are having fun gallivanting around Florida, but, please keep in mind that there poor saps up here in Pennsylvania who don't like you very much right now (just kidding, have fun).

I am here visiting my 2 brothers and parents. The only thing bad is that there are alot of things going on so I cant fish everyday. Bought the 7 day non-resident license for $30.50.

The north end bridge is Siesta Drive. I have not fished there for 20 years. since high school but maybe I will

If I have time I might rent a kayak for $30 a day and tool around with that in the intercostal.

I hate fish but Grouper is awesome! Always get one while here.

For those stuck in the cold: I flew non-stop into St. Petersburgh from Greater Pittsburgh for less than $200 roundtrip.
