Thursday 5/11
I had to make a quick trip to Colorado for business. When I go out west I usually take a few days to fish. Karen tagged along with me. We spent Thursday afternoon on the South Platte in and around Deckers. It rained the night prior but then it cleared and reached the low 70 s and I got sunburned. However, the fishing can be tough here at times. Clear water and low flows. I took a few on small (size 22) midges.
Friday 5/11
We fished the South Platte near Deckers again on Friday afternoon. We caught a good blue wing olive hatch. Size 18 and 20 BWO duns took trout in the late afternoon. Beautiful day with temperatures well into the 70s.
Karen out-fished me this afternoon.

With so many places to fish in Colorado, so many top quality rivers, I always want to fish several when I am here. I am in Colorado 2 or 3 times a year and I almost always hit a different river each day. This time, I have decided to spend the whole time on the South Platte. There is so much of this river to explore. It offers fantastic fishing. The first two days I fished in and around Deckers. On our last day Karen and I decided to hike into Cheesman Canyon. The fishing is very technical. You hook these 14 to 16 inch fish on small size 22 dries on 6X tippet and they take off like a rocket. Very strong and healthy fish that are difficult to land on small flies and light tippet.
