Fished the FFO section from the bridge up to the dam. Hit a few smallmouth and a bunch of suckers. One real nice smallie at the dam. Had a MASSIVE brown on that I saw hit the top twice with one of my nymphs. Don't know if it would have been close to my 20" fish goal this year but it looked it. He was pullin drag and running pretty well, then SLACK! and tightened again. Came out with a sucker on my point fly. He must have hit the other nymph and tossed the hook out of the brown. Man was I mad. Ohh well, till another day. It was hot and very little bug activity. Guy I was fishing with caught 3 browns and a few smallies at the dam. Saw a few light cahills and BWO's in the morning, got too hot later on for much bug activity. Had a lot of fun though, so thats all that matters!

Nice to read of a place im a little familiar with on here. I have been to slippery rock twice so far. Both times last month. It was in the afternoon and hot as well. Fished a little upstream and down from the FFO bridge. I caught one chub and lost what was either a nice brown or a big sucker on a nymph. Not really sure but it had my heart pumping. Being new to flyfishing it was fun just to get a fish of any kind on. I didnt even know there was a dam there. I will have to explore a little more next time. Ever fish the gorge? Thanks and good luck with that goal!

Any action going downstream? I've fished the Rock a few times, but unsuccessfully and I prefer going for trout. I'm somewhat of a trout snob lol. Nice stream though, tough to wade. Never had much luck in the gorge when I tried it there. I generally go a little further north to Neshannock as I prefer that stream instead. The DHALO area is much longer and there is plenty of other water on that stream that holds trout.

Thanks for the update and good luck with your goals. Tight lines!
