Skippack ck - montco - april 7th and 9th

Went out early for the opening when i first heard word. Fished from 8am till 10am and must of had atleast 60 fish. The first person finally showed up on the stream around 10:15. Weather was sunny and warm. Water on the lower side. All fish stacked in obvious pools\holes. Everything and anything was working.

Next day hit up a few different spots throughout Evansburg. Weather was cloudy with a passing harsh thunderstorm and heavy winds. Produced mostly on size 16-18 beadhead variations. A few on san juans and a few on micro eggs. Couldnt get a fish on a streamer at all. Water was definitely colder and up a bit from the recent and previous rainy day. Dodged death with a falling tree 5 yards upstreams from me.

Cost a good mixture of rainbows and browns, definitely seeing an increase in size this year as expected. Also was able to

Had 4 out of 6 targeted golden trout so far this opener. Not everyones game as id rather them be massive browns. Enjoy targeting specific fish and learning and watching their reactions.

Did you eat either of those GRT? We had some RT tonight. They were much better than expected for this early in the season.

The Middle Branch White Clay is much narrower than Skippack...more similar to Pickering. It is nearly entirely wooded, although there are some fields on or just off of the flood plain. If you live equal distance from the Tully, then I would hit the Tully if you prefer larger water. It depends upon your preferences.

I did not Mike, Gonna filet one tonight, and try to smoke one over the weekend. Will let you know how they taste! 😀

I try to purposely thin out the herd of these guys where theyre plentiful. Seems to really reduce the riff raff and crowds. Thus also letting "fisherman" keep catching an abundence of fish in these streams well into May.

I love the pickerings and Frenches water types. Kind of tired of the flat\frog redudence of everything else around here. Also cant hurt if theres nicer fish to capture memories of. Sound like white clay might be that kind of scenery and water change i need,

You may have your work cut out for you then, as I witnessed a stocking yesterday and seemingly just as many GRT came out of the tanks as did so during the preseason stocking.

The PFBC said it was going to raise more large fish for this year and release a good number inseason as well as doing so in the preseason and I believe they did! Anglers should be happy about that.
