Same-never caught a brookie on Shearers. I haven't caught a trout on Segloch before Covid either....but I moved to WV in 2019 and believe it or not, when I come home to Lancaster, Segloch is not one of my destination streams. Shocker, I know.

you would be hard pressed to catch a trout on shearers right now. I’ve caught some green sunfish from the pond upstream on the ymca property but I would rather hike the trails now instead of fish. I haven’t been to Segloch since it started going down the crapper a few years ago but I remember the 40+ fish days. Hopefully we’ll see it return someday soon because it is a great little stream for northern Lancaster county.

I know, that was the only real access to the fishable part of the stream. It can now only be accessed by permission only or traversing 5 miles west on the gamelands. I did it once for an adventure and crossed over a few other nice but barren streams in the process.

The gate in the game lands is open during the Fall. To another gate a couple miles west. It shortens the walk a little. This is the road on top of the small ridge there, off of 322, north of the TPike, but south of Shearers. Again, Shearers is far from being worth that walk right now. But when it was fishing well about 10 years ago, I’d do it a couple times a year. When the outer gate, further east, was closed, I’d ride my bike to the western gate, which I’ve never seen open.

While tiny, the streams you likely crossed over have fish. Thinking you probably parked in the lot just north of the TPike on Dead End Rd., from your description. Not really worth fishing, but there’s fish there. k-bob might like them.

I’ve never caught a Brookie in Shearers. Even back when it was fishing well.

I haven’t caught a fish period on Segloch since pre-Covid probably. But even during its decline and it started filling in with sand again, my ratio was roughly 50/50 Brooks to Browns. But yes, the bigger fish, relatively speaking for a small stream, in the better lies that are left, are typically Browns.

Caught and saw a bunch of browns about 4 years ago. This was on the lower section of the Landis property near where it runs into Middle. A year later I saw none. The upper area of the meadow near the pond was choked with silt. And this is the area that was professionally restored. My guess is the browns move a lot and spend some time in Middle Creek. I am still not sure if Middle had wild browns but I haven't caught any for a couple years.

Technically yes. Though at their confluence the UNT is about double the flow of Shearers proper. When I fished it, I fished it from the TPike culvert to the split, and then up the UNT. I’ve fished the main stem up to about the power lines before, but it fished poorly. The UNT is (was anyway) better. I’ve always assumed during Shearers discussions, most were talking about the UNT, as the guys I know who fish it prefer the UNT, myself included.

If you meant the small ones Hopback likely (he hasn’t confirmed) crossed over while hiking, I’m referring to Boyers and Behm Runs. I’ve fished both. They’re tiny. Barely flowing water in the Summer. But, they have fish. Brookies is all I’ve caught in them, but they may have Browns too. (They also suffer from the same geological red sand issues as their larger neighbors.)

Edit: Just to be clear, and as mentioned by some others above, you can’t get to Shearers from Rt. 72 to the west without trespassing (or permission). It requires a 3-5ish mile hike from the game lands to the east, depending on which gates are open at the time.
