After scouting up some local turkeys, I realized how nice it would be to float around the lake a bit in my kayak.
Picked off a couple bluegills on a picket pin, then noticed the occasional ruckus along the shoreline. Tied on a deer hair diver and tossed a few casts in the neighborhood of the disturbance I had seen....got bitten off after about 5 retrieves.
Tied on a deer hair "popper" and worked around the shore line at the back of the lake for a bit, then saw another spot where it appeared that fish were being chased. When I tossed the fly into that area a submarine charged leaving a nice wake! One pickerel down!! Long and skinny.
Fooled around with that fly for another half hour with no hits, so decided to try a golden retriever for awhile. That fly went hitless for a good 20 minutes before a small bluegill took it. Then as I was about to leave, a much nicer pickerel took the retriever and gave me a good tussle! He tore the fly up, but I did manage to get it back. It was such a nice day that I did not even curse when my cell phone decided to commit suicide by drowning in 5 feet of water!!
