Got out for a few hours with Fritz on a day that didn’t get out of the 60s. Water temp 66 at 5:30pm. Rain forecasted all day stayed light and didnt bump the water or color it until we were ready to quit at dark. We fished downstream of Centerville in a mixed stocked /wild reach. Came across fish in most likely holding areas. Picked up a mix of stocked brook trout, rainbows and browns, and a few wild browns.

I saw a couple slate drakes hatch but the surface action was purely prospecting on fritz part. He caught a nice wild brown that smashed a royal wolf.

Fish took a variety of patterns subsurface including #18 bhhe, green bh caddis pupae. And wool buggers when the water got a little dirty.

A good evening overall considering the recent temps and rainfall wrecking most fishing around the state. Surprized we didnt see more action from small wild browns in the 1-2 year class.

Looks like you had a great day overall. Nice fish!! Slammed them! GG

This is a stream that I like a lot. It was cool enough during the summer even as far back as the early 1980's to suggest that it would be a potentially good stream for fingerling stocking. I don't recall if it ever received fingerlings, but it was soon added to the adult stocking program and not too long after that much of it was posted. The present stocked sections were salvaged, in one case by eliminating opening day and stocking inseason only. The stream has its stormwater problems, but one of the longest stretches of habitat improvement that I have seen has mitigated some of that. The small Wild BT pop continues to expand in a downstream direction,as noted in the recent downstream extension on the wild trout list. Farther downstream it supports good warmwater fishing in the forms of SMB and LMB. Cool temps and acceptable flows allow this stream to fish well into the summer and probably throughout the summer in the right locations, particularly in the special reg section and above.
