What Mikey said. The way you described the take sounds like that particular fish was just plain 'hangry'. Sometimes they hit like a freight train or mini-chromer and its a total rush. Also would suggest not spending too long working one pool. While there is some truth in the saying about not leaving sighted fish to try another spot, you may have worked over the active fish right there, for the time being; and find that the fish in the next pool, up or downstream might be more willing to hit.
As for the waders, thats a bummer. I have had some luck with the leak/patch repair 'kit' that sometimes comes with most waders in using it to patch a small leak. In my case, I know most of my wader leaks over the years came from careless walking through jaggers. Jaggers and waders don't mix. Don't do it. Hard not to, I know; but its playing with fire. Nowaday, I try to make a serious conscientious effort to walk a path away from them while streamside, instead of barreling along like a bull in a china closet.
