Date and Time Fished: 04/26/2014 from 1200 hours-1900 hours.
Location: Various areas of the Savage River Watershed, and a small portion of the North Branch of the Potomac.
Hatches: The Blue Quills (Size 18-20)were pretty strong throughout the day, along with grey and black midges (Size 20-24), Black and Brown Stoneflies, the black ones were (Size 20) and the Brown were (size 14), and we saw a tan caddis and egg laying grannom caddis hatch in the evening on the North Branch.
Water Conditions: Low, the lower Savage was flowing at less than 60 cfs. The North Branch was about 250 cfs. The Upper Savage Tribs had decent flows in them though.
Weather: Sunny and breezy to begin, windy and cloudy as the day progressed and calm and light rain at the end of the day.
Results: We had a great time, the wind was a hassel at times and the fish were spooky with the low water, but we landed several nice browns on Blue Quill Comparaduns and a couple magnificent brookies on midges nymphed in the moderately deep runs. We switched over to the North Branch in the evening and took a couple nice hold over and stocked bows while nyphing stoneflies and on the swing with soft hackle partridge and peacock for the grannoms.
