Savage River Garrett County MD 5/15

Fished the Savage river today from 7 am-5 pm. The flows were 275 and the water temperature was around 46 degrees. There was very little bug life and didn't see any rising fish during the trip. I spent most of the day nymphing a wolly bugger with a small pheasant tail as a dropper. Here are a few pics from the day.

That second brookie is a monster. Looks wild too. Either way looks like a great trip.

Those first two browns are studs for that water, nice! Didymo starting to break loose yet? I usually wait until the whitewater flush at the end of May / start of June before I fish it hard.

Any sign of cicadas there?

The didymo is there but the blooms are not as bad as they have been in recent years. I think the water temps staying in the mid 40's so far might be playing a part in that. I was pretty far from the dam too and that is normally where it is the worst. I did not see any cicadas, I'm keeping my fingers crossed though, I had a blast years ago when they were around.

was very windy and it started to sleet! i fished the upper savage. some caddis and yellow sallies coming off but the wind made casting tough. i managed a nice brookie in the main stem but that was it. i went to a nearby trib and caught three others on top, all over 8 inches. Small sulfurs and caddis were in the trib. have some pics will post later. nice to see decent flow in the tribs.
