One of the toughest days of fishing I've had in a long time. The game plan was to float the north branch from barnum to luke as the predicted flows were around 500. As we dropped the shuttle car off the army corp updated their site and started releasing 2500, which shortly turned into 7500. The tempature at Barnum right now is 46!!
The predicted flows for the savage were between 200-400, tough but doable so we headed over. We started fishing and the water quickly jumped to 400, then 600, then 1000 by the time we packed it in around 6 pm the flow reached 1600. We were able to pick up some fish but it was really tough. Just trying to find small pockets of water near the shoreline to tightline nymph a short drift. There were very few fishable spots we did alot of hiking. The water temps climbed to the mid 60s as water begain to spill over the dam.
The only hatch to speak of was the great kayak hatch. Word travels fast when the savage has white water. I can't believe we are almost in August and both the savage and north branch reservoirs are at full capacity.
It definitely was not the fishing trip I had in mind when I woke up this morning but it was still nice to be out.
