Saucon Creek, Northampton Cty, 12-31-08

Got to Saucon Park at about 0730, picked up five rainbows, all of ordinary size, within an hour and a half on a squirrel tail streamer (of all things!). It was unusual that I didn't get any browns but I guess it was just a rainbow kind of day.

Air temp was in the upper 20's with off and on snow, the water was in nice shape, clear and with a good flow. Sorry, lost my thermometer again so no water temp, but my feet were plenty cold after 90 minutes.

Later in the day I got to indulge in my other hobby by running a very cold and windy 5K in downtown Bethlehem.

Great way to finish the year!

What part of the park were you fishing Sapper?

I started under the big railroad bridge and fished down to the big hole by the 412 bridge.

Probably because they stocked it on Monday previous to your getting out there.

That would explain the catch of only rainbows. I know that in the spring the Saucon is stocked below the 412 bridge but thought upstream of that was part of the SR. I suppose they could have made their way up there though given the past studies of trout moving after stocking.

Just some clarification...Saucon Creek is not stocked below the Rt. 412 bridge. The stocking that took place on 12/31 ranged from Bingen downstream to about 500 yards below the Water St. bridge.

Sapper definitely caught some strays...
