Saucon Creek, Northampton County, 11/13/11

I was at the Saucon yesterday and the weather was gorgeous. A nice BWO hatch came off around 1 and went until about 3 or so. Water temp was right around 50. It was one of those hatches that should have a been a fly fishers dream. Enough bugs to interest the fish but not too many where your fly got lost among the naturals. I said "should" because I was humbled by the fish. I got 1 and stung 2 others. There were only sporadic fish rising. I tried Griffith's Gnat and BWO's both 20 and 22. Got my hits and fish on the 20 but put my flies over a bunch of rising fish and got zero interest. I have a theory that the fish were too busy spawning to worry about eating but that only explains the lack of fish rising not the ones that ignored me and my flies completely.

There were a bunch of guys fishing and I'm wondering how you other guys did? Anyone there yesterday with a report? Feel free to PM me if you do not wish to post in open forum. Thanks.

I fished the Saucon yesterday at the closed bridge with two buddies. I saw the BWO's coming off but not many rising fish. We had one fish between the three of us. One buddy was nymphing the entire time but still got skunked.

Fished near the pool on the 13th. Got 5 on olives. what kind of car do you drive. I drive a blue BMW and wear a Richardson box. I have probably seen you there.

I was out just before dark...streamer action was hot!
Only fished a half hr...landed 1, had a couple on/offs and a couple short strikes...

Man I wish I still worked in the LV. Then I could take a late lunch or an "appointment" to check out these olives.

This stream always seemed tough for intentional risers for me...I get 'em randomly but hard to nail em after a rise. I blamed this on heavy pressure (too close to NJ!)
I do recall a BWO hatch where this was happening. I tied on a fly that was given to me, which had a curved hook/body broke through the film and it made all the difference.
Now for this hatch I like a size 20 curved hook with a comparadun wing (I usually use snowshoe bunny) or a PT klinkhammer. Swinging wets should clean up too...

I saw Andre, Sal and Robert Sunday, and by the time I got my act together and found some risers, I only got a little over an hour of ffishing in. But I landed 4 and missed a couple of others. No second chance with these guys. I was ffishing spinners since by the time I got on the water, the BWO hatch was done.

I had virtually identical results two weeks ago. Just didn't get much time on the water due to the long drive and late starts from home. That time I saw no one else on the water.

How long will the BWOs last? The gorgeous sunny days we have had till yesterday are great to be on the water, but I don't think the olives like that much light.
