Saucon Creek, Northampton Co., 9/14/2014

I fished the Suacon Park section of the stream for a few hours in the afternoon and ended up with a 20 inch brown on a #18 black foam beetle and a few smaller fish on a #22 black zebra midge. I saw many fish rising but only saw a few tricos coming off so they must have been eating some sort of small emergers.

To tell you the truth I'm not from the area so I don't know where the county line is. I was fishing off 412 across the street from the casino.

I actually started the day fishing Cooks Creek and I saw a bunch of fish but I didn't see any risers or fish that looked remotely active so I made the move to Saucon Creek.

I used to skip school (Palisades H. S.) and head to Cooks on the days they stocked back in 1967. Back then N. J. Zink Co. polluted the Saucon. My dad tells me I took my first trout from Saucon when I was 6. That's what "hooked" me.

I used to fish Cooks Creek to as a teenager when they stocked it but then it got closed down if I remember correctly. Does it have wild trout in it now? I thought most of it was private?

Cooks Creek has a very healthy wild brown trout population along with a few brookies. Although my largest out of Cooks is around 18 inches I have seen bigger fish approaching 25 inches.

As far as access I have been fishing it for 4 years now and have only seen "no trespassing" signs in 1 small area. I have heard people in the past say that its mostly private property but I haven't experienced any problems with landowners yet.

I fished Saucon a week or two ago and found many risers and hooked several - largest was about 5 inches, lol. Never seen so many YOY risers in one pool - without a single good looking fish. I fished up stream of 78. Guess that's a good sign for the future, good year class from last fall's spawn?

I did see a ton of those 3 to 5 inchers rising as well but a few pools had bigger fish.
