Time Fished: 630pm - 800pm
Weather Conditions: Mostly Cloudy, 73 degrees
Water Conditions: 62 degrees; Fairly Clear; Below Average Flow
Insects: caddis were most plentiful but still a lighter flight, saw some medium size golden stone dries, quite a few sulphurs, a few March Browns
I stopped at a stretch I had never fished before and unfortunately found the water to be below average. Thigh deep water at most with 60% of it being knee deep or less. I parked at a bridge and hiked 500 yards upstream and fished about the same amount downstream past the bridge I stayed on the move thinking I would hit a nice hole somewhere.
On the positive side I was surprised at the number and variety of insects. I ended with 2 strikes landing a chub and a rainbow on an olive woolly bugger.
The bank here was undercut most time and the water level was low so the undercut looked like a pretty significant highway for mink & raccoon. Saw many places where I think a mink had gathered 2 dozen clams and the shells were just in piles like you would see at a fancy restaurant after the meal was over.
Before I fished Sandy, I stopped at Little Sandy to check it out and it was crystal clear and low. Looked like the fishing would be challenging in the low water. Someone was parked there but I didn't see them in my quick trip to the stream and back.
