Im sorry i didnt read through the entire thread and maybe you have told people but, what did you catch that brown on?

Im just curious man.....that is a real amazing fish! Im glad you caught one of your target fish that you have always wanted to catch. Gotta feel good! 🙂

Got him on a chartreuse estaz pattern. Unfortunately, those lake run browns are anything but hard to fool. They come to the river with one idea...salmon eggs. They are basically dumb steelhead in a brown trout's body.

Great brown Jay. I'm just back myself from the Salmon River. We had tougher conditions with high flows as tztrout observed. I did manage to catch my first King and Bruno's buddy got a couple King's on a Salmon River trib. JackM and I fished a nearby Ontario trib on Sunday and I caught my second King. We also had a double hook-up going for a while, he with a King and I with a Steelhead, but both eventually got off.

Its a nice time of year to fish and we had a great time!

Nice pics, Jay. Our trip was not as productive as Greg noted. I had a ball with Greg, Matt and his friend and in-laws. We met some funny folks from New Jersey and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at the campground and initiated them into the Bourbon Club. The fishing conditions were tough, but we saw fish and hooked some. A few legally caught Kings were taken for the pan. Unfortunately, I was unable to make the life-and-death decision required for me to claim I caught one. Erie on Monday treated me no more kindly.

I'll try to find it, but there was a post on Salmoncrazy about some yahoos from Jersey at the campground where you were staying, at least if it was the one where Bruno stayed last year. Something about being up all night drinking and being loud. I chuckled when I read it, but then dismissed it because they said the guys had Jersey plates.

What are considered good flows? What gage do you look at?

Where is this camprgound being taled about?

Eggs and egg sucking leeches right?

What do I do with a barrel swivel?

This information could be useful as one never knows.

http://imgur.com/oUZQp.png shows the rig with indie. Lengthen the leader (between amnesia and swivel) for fishing without an indie. The black dot is a swivel, and the brown dots are shot. The x in the shot dropper is an overhand knot.

The weights are on a dropper from the blood knot, and I also pinch smaller ones on the tippet for indie fishing.

That's how I do it anyway. Estaz is the bread and butter. Eggs, ESLs, bunny leeches, etc. Anything bright.

I prefer between 350 and 1150. 750 is prime IMO, but what do I know.

335 to 750 cfs are for me optimal levels. The 1150 release combined with runoff ( 750 = 1 gate release) pushed the river to 1400 to 1600 cubic feet per second. If you aren't careful at these levels you are asking for trouble. While I was there 2 different fishermen, including a 13 year old, were pulled out of the little black hole, at the upper end of the DSR, after falling in at the town pool, which is at least 1/2 mile upriver. The youngster suffered mild hypothermia, the older guy, who my buddy help pull out and resusitate, was in bad shape initially, doing fine now. His waders were filled with water, he was very lucky.These levels are certainly fishable, bring trout in and spread them out. Just don't take any needless or foolish chances.

Once you have the area you can google motel rooms. I imagine you need to reserve rooms far in advance for salmon season weekends, but you might find some weekday availability.

I think salmon season has peaked. You might be able to grab a room for an upcoming weekend, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
