Met up with some good friends from Vermont, Colorado and New Hampshire at the Salmon River on Tuesday and Wednesday. We had the guides from the Fly Rod Shop out of Stowe Vermont help us figure out what we were doing. Even with sub freezing temps and snow it turned out to be a great trip. We fished the upper fly zone on Tuesday and although it was a bit busy ‘cause it just opened there was plenty of room and all the other fishers we ran into were pretty good guys. We all got into some steelhead, the biggest being about 8 pounds. I opted to drift on Wednesday with guide Bob Shannon and although I got skunked it was still a good day with Bob giving me some one on one lessons that were well worth the price. I probably had over 300 flys tied but the most successful were the pink San Juan worms and a pink Estaz egg.
