S. Branch Codorus Creek, York County, 12-6-11

hey all,

Was able to get on my home creek for 3 hours Tuesday the 6th. Fished from 11:00am til 2:00pm. Cloudy with scattered rain but never really heavy rain, 50 degree air temp.

Water was clear, still a little high (like all of PA waters) no temp on water.

Brought 3 browns to hand and lost one more. had maybe 6 more hits. All were caught on olive WB. Tried a few nymph patterns but only caught chubs. Not sure what trout are eating right now. No noticible surface action, no hatches visible.

Good day to be on the water. 2 browns about 8 inches, one about 11 inch.

Fished downstream from Centerville.

I got a nice brown yesterday, lost a few and tied a bunch of new things that I know will hammer them

You're fishing near or in a couple mile segment of the stream that would not surprise me if it is now Class A or close to it.

Yea it is a class a year round fishing for only a few short miles, down stream there are a lot of smallies and seems to be let trout even though there are bigger holes

What you think depends on your perspective. I have been following the stream's improvement for 30 years. When I first surveyed it there were no wild trout except in some tributaries. The stream was a transitional stream in the stretch that we are discussing. It was a warmwater stream closer to Seven Valleys.

Well i have only been fishing it for 10 months and have had a lot of fun! Got out this past weds 12/14 for 2 hours or so mid-day and landed 2 browns one 12 inch or so, had a few more hits. the browns i caught hit a bugger each 3-4 times before getting hooked, the others would not come back.

From what i can tell TS Lee floods washed the stream clean and is a lot less silt and nice rocky bottom.

I start catching SMB more then trout downstream from 7 valleys, but catch smallies even in Glen Rock in the summer.


Up in Glen Rock and a few miles downstream I don't think the water ever hit 80 degrees this past summer, I really need to get a thermometer!

I personally would like to see a few miles to be designated catch and release only I still run into fishermen all year taking the bigger browns home.

Down closer to seven valleys the trout fishing was amazing. The past few years I have been noticing more fisherman and more people taking more fish. I was talking to a guy that has a chest freezer of trout because every time he goes out he keeps them!!!! I wanted to kill him

I have also noticed people from maryland fishing a day before the opener keeping fish! I guess what I'm saying is I dont like ignorant people on the water especially with these nice trout waters around us
