Rod Break Down and Storage

^This right here. Develop a consistent routine to put away the rod before anything else is done.

Don’t know how many times a month a see a post for “lost rod” that was left by the car, etc.

Exactly, nothing else happens back at the truck, not even a p!ss taken, before the rod is broken down and stowed, reel as well. That's how it's been and will continue to be until my fishing days are done.

Any time this is done at my house my cat will bite the line off within seconds of turning your back. Fly line or mono.

Exactly, nothing else happens back at the truck, not even a p!ss taken, before the rod is broken down and stowed, reel as well. That's how it's been and will continue to be until my fishing days are done.

It's really had to describe, but I made a magnetic rod holder that rotates so I can string up or take down a rod. It has a folding pouch that cradles the butt of the rod & the reel and it has a separate magnetic piece with Velcro that secures the rod upright.

I can deploy and set it up in seconds on the driver's side of my SUV and plop the rod in and know it is safe. Just in case the urge to **** is so great that I KNOW I won't have enough time to take down & stow the rod first. 😉

Regardless, once the rod is in my holder, the remaining never deviated steps are:

Take down and stow rod & reel and fold up the rod holder​

Stow remaining gear​

​

Remove & stow wading gear​

​

Walk around car even though I never leave the back of it, just to make sure I didn't drop or leave anything behind​

​

Have a beer and take another **** if necessary.​

Setting things up is similar with the stringing up the rod done next to last and having a beer the very last thing before hitting the water.

This is one of those topics where I never even realized there were multiple or right & wrong ways to do something. I've always just broken down my rod, put it in the sock and in the tube, and continued on my day.

I'm yet to damage a rod yet, but the more you know 🤣

Well......we got it for the kids. Of course it hates everyone but me.

I don’t worry about things like this.
I just shove them in the sock till they’re dry
I put the rod sections in the tube,if they have a tube,in either direction.
At home they get stored horizontally in the basement joists with the cap off.

I find I can sometimes fit two rods in one tube if they are inserted in opposite orientation.

I’m sure my rod tubes are in the basement. At least they should be since I don’t use them. I store and transport my rods completely assembled with fly still tied on. I do everything I can to not break down my rods. I would avoid driving my truck because I had to break them down in half to throw across the back seat. I store them assembled in rod racks attached to my basement rafters. I have a system and I would have to be a complete Moron to break or drive off without my rod. I implemented the system after closing my tailgate on my rod after getting all ready to walk to the creek.

That's creative. My rod gets set up streamside and put back into it's tube as soon as I'm done fishing for the day. Too many ways to break it on the way out. I also double check the number of sections I put into the sock before leaving. On one occasion, I almost left one behind. Lesson learned.

I’ve had cats for the last 30 years, 2 at a time mostly. This latest set like me cause I’m a mark and will feed them on demand…and that demand comes pretty much whenever they see me in the kitchen 🤣 I’m also a sound sleeper making me a nice cat bed.

if it matters whether butt up or down, buy a better rod. Geesh. Focus on how you put it together, taking them apart and how much stress you put on it freeing a snag or walking through the woods
