Hi everyone!

So this is my first post, but I've been quietly looking through the forums for a few weeks. I'm relatively new to fly fishing and the area as well.

Today I stopped by Ridley Creek to check out the trout they stocked yesterday.

Conditions:
Air temperature: High of 33 F
Winds: 20mph, some higher speed gusts as well
Water temperature: I didn't get an exact number but I would say mid to upper 30's.

There were a lot of other people fishing early in the morning around like 6am, but the rush tapered off around 10am.

My friend and I started right by the bridge at first but there were too many people to fish, so we went down steam a ways and had no luck. We did not see any fish past the bridge and adjacent hole. After working our way back up stream there was a cluster of trout under the bridge and were actively going after streamers, nymphs and other wet flies. There were a lot of good sized trout that they stocked, I think the smallest I saw was about 10".



I personally caught 2 fish, 10" and 15" both rainbow trout.

Overall it was a good, but freezing day!

Does anyone know how far down they stocked?


 
Download them to your computer and use Paint to downsize them. Usually 20 percent works to post them on the boards here. I've never fished Ridley, but that was a nice report and welcome to the board!!! I'd imagine they only stocked close to the bridge, the Commission has been having difficulty finding volunteers lately to spread the fish out. I'm not sure if that's the case there, but I would assume so.
 
Glad you got into them. If the fall stock was any indication, they don't go further than the first s-shaped bend without help to stock.
 
TJsingle thanks for sharing your stream report!

Sharing pictures directly from a phone really doesn't work. If you save those photos on flickr, google photos or other sites automatically, you can use the embedded code to copy and past a picture in. The sites can create the code automatically, you just paste.

 
With carry-over of trout from the fall stocking, you should then be able to find trout throughout the fly stretch regardless of where the recently stocked fish were released. The fall fish are probably a bit wiser by now.
 
My TU chapter helped out with the stocking. They floated pretty far down but I'll check to see where they stopped. I do know that the water above the falls was stocked and below the falls. The bridge pool is the most popular with the local fishermen. The stream overall gets a lot of pressure all year long. If you don't mind walking a bit, if you walk upstream theres a small gorge area that is really nice to fish and not to many venture up there. The stream will also get stocked by the local Co-Op, Delco Anglers. Im also part of that group. We only stock Brookies, so if you happen to catch one it came from our group.

Nymph-wristed, I didn't fish too much during the Fall but I only caught fish upstream of that bend. I caught one nice 20" one and a 10" one too, for the times I went.

Mike, that's good to know, I think next time I'm going to start at Dismal Run and start working upstream.

Mooney4, the gorge area that you were talking about, how far is it up from the dam? Like past the handicap accessible fishing pier? I haven't fly fished much above the dam, but I have used regular tackle up there. That's pretty cool that Delco Anglers stocks some brookies in the creek, I'm guessing they are placed in a couple of locations throughout the creek, above and below the dam?

Used to fish that stream allot when I lived in Media. Used a bead head Greenie Weenie most of the time. Try from the Rosetree road bridge upstream. I caught many a fish behind all the houses.
