Got to the water around 9am. Air temps low 60's and cloudy, no wind.
Hiked way downstream from the usual FFO spots and had this whole particular stretch all to myself for the entire time.
Mixture of midges, tan caddis and light cahills (hendrickson's?) coming off. Predominant large bug was the caddis though.
Immediately saw a few rises to caddis in glassy pools and went head hunting and quickly landed two brookies on a crippled caddis pattern.
Moved downstream and throwing on a frenchie dropper off my caddis I hooked and lost 2 larger browns in the fast riffles.
Moved down and saw a few bigger browns in an eddy rolling and nymphing. I passed every nymph I had over them without a bump. Then stripped a slumpbuster and landed the brown I had been watching on the first cast, about 15-16" and fat.
Moved back upstream and caddis' were heavier on the water, hooked 4 more and landed two both in a slow glassy pool and in fast heavy riffled water. All on the dropper.
Great day and even better because I had it all to myself.
